Yorkshire firm develops obesity-related products - 30/06/08
A Yorkshire-based firm has announced this week that it is focussing on developing obesity-related products, due to the demand in this market.
Surgical Innovations has invested in new facilities to enable it to increase its supply of products in this field and has relocated its operations to Leeds in order to focus on achieving this goal, reports Trade Yorkshire.
Doug Liversidge, non-executive chairman, told the website: "To meet the anticipated worldwide growth in minimally invasive surgery and the increasing demand for our suite of obesity-related products, we made the strategic decision to invest in new facilities that have substantially increased our capacity."
He added that with around 1.2 billion obese people in the world there is huge scope to supply medical instruments to the healthcare industry for weight related treatments.
One product the company currently sells is an "advanced laparoscopic port access system" called YelloPort Plus, which surgeons in the US are already using.
Surgical Innovations was founded in 1992 and six years later merged with Haemocell. It now employs more than 40 people who help it develop cutting edge surgical equipment.
